I originally started the locking process in April. I went to a salon in Long Island and at about $45 the stylist twisted my hair. I am of mixed decent and my hair can have a mind of it's own. Straight strands in the front, curly in the back, and a serious permanent part. So when I say twisted, it literally looked like sherley-temple curls (no back-combing). About a month in, my hair certainly did not obey any rules. It was not going well and I couldn't figure a way out of it. In May (while in Florida) a woman approached me examining my hair and telling me about the interlocking process. It sounded like she knew what she was talking about and knew what to do with "my kind of hair". Desperate to fix the madness that was on my head, I drove for about an hour to her shop. I spend approx. 7 hours of my day (yes 7) in this shop. 4 of those hours actually being spent on my hair in the midst of her completing other tasks, eating, waxing? Yea, so... She did the interlocking which she attempted to do as tight as humanly possible. It was painful. She tried to wash it afterwards and then said she would palm roll it. Since I spent the entire day in the shop, I had to leave to catch a flight and there went the palm roll after my wash. So if you can imagine what my hair looked like at this point (Picture a shagg mixed with a few curls). About 3 weeks with this horrible nature, I am on Jamaica Ave. searching for the West Indian shop that used to be on 165. I firgured I need to go to an actual "loctician" or at least someone who actually has locks. Since they were closed, I went to about 5 other shops who all looked at the interlocking like "what the heck is that". At about $125 in and having to start all over, I wasn't too excited. I found Just Locs by Marceline by googling the best loctician in New York. I called a few places and Marceline was the only one kind enough to return my call and answer the questions I was looking for. Everyone else just didn't call back or only took the time to give me a price. The wash, the process, the environment was just the perfect spot for me. My hair is soft and will come out of anything I attempt to put it in. But Marceline coached my hair into its current state which after only 2 months is exactly where it should be. It smells better, it looks better, it feels better.
ReplyDeleteIt's been 18months since I locked my hair and been through five hair stylists.... whew it was a journey and finally I have met Marceline.... in life you must go through something to get something better... I met Marceline playing around on the website cause my previous stylist left hair clips in my hair in the back... I thought it was because a client I recommended to her, had apparently stood her up and people you know when someone is not all that pleased with you... well anyway Just Loc's is just right for me...the scented oil in my hair fragrance smells very good and I love the whole process of it... going to just loc's about five days ago getting my hair colored, twisted and styled was the healthiest my hair ever looked and the event I attended my High School reunion said lots of nice comments and when I came to work they loved it and I am soooo happy that there is a computer world of hair and I am grateful to have found just loc's thank you Marceline ur the best...
